The Co-Motion Steelhead might be the finest tandem we've ever had on our showroom floor. For adventuring or touring on pavement or off, the Steelhead excels at everything.
The Steelhead's frame is handbuilt from Reynolds 631 cro-moly steel in Eugene, Oregon. Reynolds 631 tubing delivers excellent ride quality, brilliant handling and exceptional strength for high performance tandems. The frame tubing has been custom shaped and butted, keeping weight down while maintaining confidence-inspiring torsional strength. The "boom tube" (frame tube between the cranksets) is ovalized for flex-free power transfer. Thru-axle dropouts ensure precise brake rotor alignment and add an extra dash of handling precision. Flat-mount brake caliper installation reduces overall weight and promotes more even pad wear, especially during hard braking. Hooded rear dropouts allowed Co-Motion to build the Steelhead with extra-stout chainstays and seatstays for improved strength and power transfer at the rear triangle. A tandem-specific carbon fiber fork soaks up vibration, keeping the captain's hands more comfortable and prolonging headset life. Rack, fender and bottle mounts are found throughout the Steelhead's frameset, making the bike more versatile for extended tours, or just a trip to the farmer's market. The geometry is optimized for 700c wheels and 35-45mm tires.
For those who think electronic shifting is overkill on a tandem, the Shimano Ultegra Di2 drivetrain is a game changer on the Steelhead. Every shift is perfect. Every. Single. Time. The Di2 system will even trim the front derailleur for you automatically as you shift across the rear cassette. Clumsy shifting on steep grades is no longer a gamble, as the Shimano Di2 motors operate with lightning-quickness. The Di2 battery is tucked inside the seat tube, keeping it out of the weather. A single battery charge lasts for 900-1,000 miles, depending on shift frequency. Recharging is done at the junction box under the stem. An alloy Co-Motion crankset with 50/34T compact chainrings matches with an 11-40T Shimano cassette, bringing a massive gearing range to every challenging climb.
Astral's tubeless-ready Outback wheels were chosen for the Steelhead, ensuring durability and high performance to tandem riding in all conditions. The 36-spoke rims boast a 25mm width, allowing tires from 35-45mm wide. California-made White Industries CLD (Center Lock Disc) thru-axle hubs and Sapim stainless steel spokes bring a seriously robust build quality to the Steelhead's wheels. Shimano Ultegra hydraulic disc brake clamp onto 203mm TRP brake rotors, bringing confident speed control and power to every ride, rain or shine (or mud).
The Steelhead features alloy seatposts, and and FSA SL-K alloy stem and FSA Omega handlebar for the captain. The stoker gets a classic stoker bar and an adjustable alloy stem for easy fit tweaks.
A Shimano Di2 charging cable is included with the purchase of this bicycle.

Once you know you're ready for a tandem, it's time to dream of what you can do together. This tandem will take you there!
The frame of every tandem needs to be strong, not just for the riders and possible cargo, but also for handling and safety. Cannondale's SmartFormed aluminum frame tubes on the RT2 tandem are butted with the expectation that two powerful riders will take it through its paces. Cornering won't feel rubbery with a stong tandem frame, and braking will feel progressive and powerful. A massive 1.5" head tube/steerer tube interface adds handling precision, espcially during high-speed turns and descents. Rack and water bottle mounts are found throughout the RT2, giving the tandem versatility for longer rides and trips to the farmer's market. A 3D forged fork soaks up road vibration, keeping the captain more comfortable.
The drivetrain of the RT2 consists of 10-speed Shimano 105 components, including the dual-control levers, front triple derailleur and long-cage rear derailleur. An FSA Gossamer tandem 52/39/30T crankset and Shimano Tiagra 12-30T cassette adds a massive gearing range to the bike, making challenging climbs less fearsome. 36-spoke alloy DT Swiss wheels are wrapped with Continental's legandary 700x25c GatorSkin tires, bringing puncture-resistant confidence to every mile. Shimano's R515 cable-operated disc brake calipers clamp onto 203mm front and 180mm rear rotors, ensuring excellent stopping power in all conditions, rain or shine. Cannondale's alloy C3 Compact road handlebars, alloy stoker bars, adjustable alloy stoker stem, alloy seatposts and Prologo T2.0 saddles complete this brilliant bicycle built for two.
